Letter to
All Councillors
Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown Co. Council
County Hall,
Marine Road,
Dun Laoghaire,
Co. Dublin

Dear Councillors,

I call on you to safeguard the future of St Michael’s Hospital at its current location and ensure the hospital has adequate room to expand and upgrade its services.

In public statements St Vincent’s Healthcare Group (SVHG) has acknowledged that developer, Noel Smyth, has met with them to discuss the possible sale or re-location of the public hospital. SVHG expressed “disappointment” that the adjoining car park of the private nurses home was sold without their knowledge to Smyth when it is in their words an “integral part of current hospital services.”

Smyth’s ownership of the nursing home car park and other property surrounding the public hospital is, therefore, adversely affecting the ability of the hospital to fully operate, develop and expand its services at its current location, in turn putting pressure on the SVHG to accept, now or in the future, a proposal for sale or re-location of the hospital.

To fully safeguard the future of St Michael’s hospital, I call on you to put forward/ support a variation in the current County Development Plan inserting a specific Local Objective in respect of the St Michael’s hospital site, including the site of the private nursing home and car park, which preserves these sites “for hospital use only.”

Yours Sincerely,
